BC Rail’s Royal Hudson
is celebrating its 25th
anniversary and Father’s
Day on Sunday, June 20
by leading with a dou-
ble header.

The train will be powered
by two steam engines, the
2860 and the 3716.

The 2860 Royal Hudson
was built in 1940 for use in
B.C. From 19490 ro 1956, the
locomotive ran through the
canyons and tunnels berween
Vancouver and Revelstoke,
hauling trans-continental pas-
senger tains. In 1973 the 2860
was bought by the B.C. gov-
ernment for a new life with BC
Rail. The locomotive now
serves more than 65,000 pas-
sengers annually for the day
trip to Squamish and back.

The 3716 was built as a
CPR freight engine by the

options for

Montreal Locomotive Works in
1912. In 1976 the locomotive
was donated to the province
and was overhauled for service.
It toured the province and
appeared in two movies: Te
Journey of Natty Gann and The
Grey Fox.

The double-header event is
co-sponsored by the News.

Car enthusiasts will be
showing off their bumpers at a
middle-age car show of 1940s
and 1950s vintage automobiles
at the BC Rail Station.

Steam trip passengers will
enjoy a complimentary pancake
breakfast ($3.50 for each addi-
tional person). .

Participants in the car show
will receive a Royal Hudson
engincer’s cap, and a one-sime
25% discount certificate (for up
to four people) on the Rovai
Hudson Class, valid anytime in
the 1999 season. There will be
a draw for bumper show-offs to

In the spint of the testive
oceasion, a Dixieland band will
be making merry in the station
and on the train. A clown and a
magician will play to the crowd
as well.

Wednesday through Sunday co
Sept. 26. The twain departs BC
Rail = Station’ sin’) North
Vancouver at 10 am. and
Tetums at 4 p.m. with a owo-
hour stop-over in Squamish.
Round-mip train fare is $47.50
for adults, S41 tor seniors and
youth and $12.75 for children.
Parlour Class is $75 for adults,
$70 for seniors and youth, and
$42.50 for children. “Advance
reservations are required for all
options.

A selection of opportunities are
available through North Shore
Community Services (NSCS):

An interviewer is nceded to conduct infor-
mation and referral interviews with persons
wishing to volunteer in North Shore agencies.
Interviewers duties include phoning to remind
clients about their appointments.

A sun awareness beach patrol is needed to
walk around the beach raising awareness of the
risks of skin cancer; setting 2 good example of
how to reduce those threats; and distribute
pamphlets and sunscreen.

It’s a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and
meet people and bring information about the

dangers of exposure to the sun to people at the
each.

An arts and crafts coordinator is needed
to facilitate an arts and crafts program for a
group of six youths ages 12-18.

An office assistant is necded to greet
clients, keep attendance records, answer tele-
phone and inquiries, process mail, photocopy-
ing, make coftee, water plants and word-pro-
cessing using, MSWord.

Volunteers are needed to update legal voi-
umes (by filing updates) and to create prece-
dent binders on various legal subjects.
