As a young man he arrived in Van- couver in 1911, where he was hired by Dixon & Murray, a woodwork- ; ing company. _ He remembers Vancouver as be- ing ‘‘a little smaller’’ then, exten- ding to the west as far as Alma. Formerly a member of the Liverpool Rifles, he joined up with the Seaforth Highlanders in 1914, going overseas with the 72nd Bat- tallion to fight early in 1917. This was shortly after. he married ‘Eleanor Calderhead, originally from Scotland. Wyatt’s first battle was at Vimy Ridge, and he went on to fight at Passchendaele and Lens, earning the rank of sergeant before the war “It was hell...but it was an adventure,’’ he recalls. “ Returning to Vancouver in 1918, Wyatt went back to work for Dix- on & Murray, where he remained until he was 72 years old. - He and his wife raised their children at a house’ in‘ the 2800 block on 1lth .Avenue. Their daughter Elizabeth Thompson lives in California, while sons Arthur and Clifford live in Vancouver and West Vancouyer, respectively.. Peake told of an incident when Mr. Sharpe was commissioned to build a house and started construc- ting it on the wrong lot. “Cecil panicked when he found out it was the wrong lot,’’ said.
