GVRD has an impact on ON BEHALF of Ironworkers’ Union Local 97, the B.C. Federation of Labor recently passed a motion te iobby the provincial government for a name change to the Se- cond Narrows Bridge. They want to call it the Iron- workers’ Memorial Bridge in honor of the ironworkers who died during the construction of the span. Twenty- three workers died when the bridge coHapsed June 17, 1958. North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA David Schreck has said he likes the idea of yenaming the bridge Iron- workers’ Memorial Bridge, and that he would lobby iis colleagues for the change. North Vancouver District Mayor Murray Dykeman is against it, saying. it is teo late to change the name, and noted that there is a memo- rial plaque commemoraiing the workers on the bridge’ s southeast corner.
