Directors voted against accord From page 4 non-emergency services every fifth Friday to compensate for a reduced work week as set out in the provincial Health Labor Ac- cord. The first unpaid Friday is Nov. 12.. Coupled: with Remembrance Day on Thursday, Nov, 11, hos- pital staff members will take a’ four-day weekend. ‘Said Smith, ‘We don’t antici- pate any problems. ! would be very surprised if we did- have - problems.’’. Smith said the hospital surgery hours are extended on Wednes- days. Elective surgeries, daycare and outpatient services such as oc- cupational therapy and physiotherapy will be closed every fifth Friday. But Schreck said the wholesale closing of non-emergency services at LGH is inappropriate. He said LGH management chose to adjust to the shorter work week in a way that would maximize adverse public reaction rather than bringing the public on side. The LGH board of directors voted against the Health Labor Accord which reduced the work week from 37.5 to 36 hours. Schreck said that if non- emergency services can be halted for four consecutive days without problems, it is a reasonable ques- tion to ask whether some of those procedures belong in a_ hospital setting at all. ’ Said’ Schreck, ‘‘My view is the attitude of the LGH, and some other institutions, resisting any attempt at having greater effi- ciency and change, is that they just hope to wait until the gov- ernment changes — then they can get back to their old ways, like pigs at the trough, wasting tax- payers’ dollars.”’ You are Innocent Until Proven Gully, Do not plead guilty before consulting an experienced criminal lawyer.
