To further improve handling
and ride, the Si offers a front
stabilizer bar, special gas-filled
shock absorbers and larger 60-
series 14-inch all-season radials.
Light, precise power-assisted
rack-and-pinion steering is stand-
ard on all Si models.

The lightweight Civic Coupe
also brakes extremely quickly,
though 1 am surprised that the
standard front-disc/rear-drum
setup is carried over to the Si
model. [ would have expected
four-wheel disc brakes on the
sporty Si model.

The DX has a lockable, one-
piece fold-down rear seat while
the Si has split, fold-down rear
seats.

The Si offers a standard
power-operated sunroof with tilt
and slide features, tachometer,
power outside mirrors, cruise con-
trol, and improved interior trim.

Considering its high level of
standard equipment, the Si is a
much better value for $15,495
than the DX is for $12,995. How-

volunteers in B.C. and the
Yukon who have received
awards for their efforts to
organize Canada 125 cele-
brations.

North Vancouver residents who
have received community awards
are Laurie Thompson, Gerry Mc-
Caan and Gordon Leckie.

West Vancouver residents who
were honored with the .same
award are Taleeb Noormohamed
and Ann Sturrock.

In addition, North Vancouver’s
Angela George was honored with
a national award.

wheelbase, which is longer than
that of the Civic hatchback. Front
legroom and headroom is ade-
quate but the Coupe’s rear seat
legroom is tight, and there is a
noticeable lack of footrcom under
the front seats. Rear headroom is
minimal too.

And while the Coupe is adver-
tised as a Sive-seater, three people
in the rear seat is quite a squeeze.
This is typical of most coupes of
this class, though.

Outward visibility from the
cocxpit is excellent in all direc-
tions, and dviver controls are easy
to reach and use. The trunk is tal!
and deep with the added conve-
nience of fold-down rear seats.

According to Sim Miller, vice-
president of marketing for Honda
Canada, the Civic Coupe is ex-
pected to appeal primarily to
young buyers. .

“The target audience is ex-
pected to be relatively young, with
a high propertion of female
buyers,’” he said.

The security of a trunk with
out-of-view storage is part of the
Coupe’s appeal, he suggested.
