Bail denied in coffin case THE 44-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man charged in connection with the delivery of a coffin to a British Properties home and an explo- sion in the garage of another home a block away has been ordered to be held in custody until the case comes to trial. Sean Morriss appeared Monday in West Vancouver provincial court to show cause why he should be released on bail on the 11 charges he faces in connection with a series of bizarre incidents in which threats were alleged to have been made to four people in West Vancouver, Richmond and Vancouver. Originally charged July 8 with obstructing justice after an ex- Fiusive device was detonated in the garage of a West Vancouver lawyer’s home July 6, Morriss was charged July 13 with an addi- tional 10 criminal counts, including uttering threats, extortion, mischief and intent {9 cause injury by causing an explosion. All charges were laid against Morriss in connection with inci- dents alieged to have occurred between July 3 and 7 in which two cars were allegsd to have been damaged in Richmond and life-size coffins dropped on the front lawn of a Richmond businessman, delivered to a home a block away from the West Vancouver lawyer and found at the entraace {> a Granville Island building. Morriss has been remanded in custody to July 27 to fix a date for trial in West Vancouver provincial court on the charges. Ferry back in service THE 362-car czpacity Queen of Coquitlam officially returned Tuesday to the Horseshoe Bay-to-Nanaime ferry run. Removed to undergo repairs io its crankshaft, the Queen of Co- quitiam had been replaced by the smaller, 192-car capacity Queen of New Westz-inster. The additional late-night ferry runs that had been added to make up for the repiacement ferry’s decreased capacity and slower speed have been dropped with the return of the Queen of Coquitlam. *Regular hourly summer sailings from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. are now r “back in effect. Work to repair one of Horseshoe Bay’ Ss berths has also been completed. ’ & new loading ramp was installed at the terminal’s Berth Two Friday and was back in service Friday afternoon. The old ramp collapsed April 28 after the Queen of Cowickan had pulled away from the dock on its way to Langdale. Cause of the ramp failure was mechanical.
