‘ WEST VANCOUVER Seniors Ac-
tivity Centre is offering a four-
week introduction course for
senior and non-senior adults to the
Bavarian folk art Bauernmalerie.

Adele Wade will teach strokes
that comprise the flowers, leaves
and scrolls of this art form. Par-
ticipants will also learn preparation
and finishing of wood pieces.

The class runs Wednesdays, Oct.
19 to Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Bow-um-mauler-eye, means pea-
sant painting in German. Accor-
ding to the folklore version,
Bauernmalerie originated 200 years
ago. It was then the peasants in the
Alpine regions felt a desire to dec-
orate their furniture. They painted
flowers and scenes that were part
of their everyday life.
