The game took piace on Sunday at the Kinsmen Stadium, directly preceeding the Kilbey Cup Final. Testimonial AFTER AN early-morning start to the Olympia Gold Cup round Sunday, Coaches Soccer League teams converged on Kinsmen Stadium for a pair of important games, First on the agenda was a testimonial game in honor of Joe Kilbey, founding father of the Coaches Soccer League and active as a player and administrate - since the league’s inception in 1966. Honorary captains Tony Waiters and Bob Lenarduzzi lent their usual class to the proceedings as they joined Kilbey, now 78, and a collection of past and present players on the field. Kilbey capped off the game when, after hitting the cross-bar in the first half, he knocked a second-half penalty-kick past goal-keeper Guenther Frey. Next up was the league champi- onship game for the Kilbey Cup between division winners Norvan Oldtimers and Lynnwood Nordic. The first half produced a tight defensive struggle with only one or two good scoring chances at either end and wound up scoreless. Play opened up in the second half, and about midway through Lynnwood scored a goal that looked like it might stand up as the winner when Ron Hilder slammed home a knock-back header from Ron Wilson. game starts Soccer cup round play They nearly made it 2-0 minutes later when a powerful header rocketed off the post, but Norvan battled back. Finally converting their game- long territorial advantage into a victory, they won on the strength of two goals by Nick Pearson to take the cup for the second straight year.
