a4 - Friday, Auguse 15, Lodging | stil | ‘available | for fair VISITORS to Expo 86 can rest assured that ample accommoda- tion is available in the Greater Vancouver area. “The visitors are here in large numbers, the accommodation is available and everyone’s having a great time,’’ said former tourism Minister Claude Richmond. Greater Vancouver hotels and motels currently have a 10-15 per cent vacancy rate. Attendance at Expo 86, is already over the ten million mark, with visitors coming from all over North America, the Pacific Rim and Europe. With two and a half months to go, Expo 86 has already surpassed the total attendance figures for each of the recent world fairs at New Orleans and Knoxville. BOOK AHEAD ‘“We want as many people as possible to enjoy the experience of a visit to Expo 8€ between now and the Oct. 13 clusing date,’’ said Richmond. ‘‘While sufficient accommoda- tion is available in all price ranges, we do suggest people make their plans soon and book ahead to en- sure a worry-free visit to Expo,” he added. Richmond said the commercial sector of B.C.’s hospitatity in- dustry has proven more than capable of handling the large in- flux of visitors. The addition of several new hotels in the Greater Vancouver area, new camp sites and the ex- pansion of youth hostel services and bed and breakfast facilities have combined to prevent an Expo accommodation shortfall. WARM WELCOME “We also have our Expo 86 Guest House Program available as a back up system. Our residents have responded warmly by welcoming Expo visitors into their homes,” said Richmond. Expo 86 accommodation can be booked through ResWes, the fair's official reservation system. To reach ResWes, call 662-3300. Major hotels in Vancouver's downtown area have also established their own inter-group teferral systern to provide callers with the most current Expo ac- commodation information. “FULL-LENGTH VERSION.
