Disability insurance can usually
be purchased by anyone up to age
65. (Some companies do sell to
seniors, but the cost of a‘plan is
high at that age.) It guarantees you
an income, in the event of accident
or illness.

Disability insurance can be pur-
chased through an employer’s or
association’s group plan, or
through an individual, tailor-made
plan.

It can cover you for a short
term, with benefits paid on a week
by week basis for up to one year.
Or it might cover you for a long
term (i.e. to age 65), on a month
by month basis.

By law, you can never make a
“‘profit’’ on disability insurance.
