B2 - Wednesday, March 30, 1983 - North Shore News | SEVEN TEAMS STILL IN -HUNT lron Horse and Lynn Valley advance Iron Horse Sunday became the second team to qualify for the semi-finals of the Coaches’ League Cup and will join Lynn Valley on the sidelines next week in waiting for their opponents to emerge from the seven teams still in the hunt. The League champions have parlayed an early- morning bye into the ad- vantage they needed to defeat league runners-up Lynnwood Hotel! 5-3. Lynnwood had _ already played one match, rolling over Molsons 4-1. Two other early games were decided on penalty- kicks after ending in dead- locks after sixty minutes of action as Aardquin Con- struction edged Olympics 1- QO and Carlings nipped Olympia Gold Caps 2-1. The fourth early match saw Eagle Harbour bow out of cup action with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Caribbean Stars. Olympics were also eliminated from further play when they encountered overwhelming odds in their second game. Waiting for them after a strenuous first match in extremely wet conditions was a well-rested Superstars team who had enjoyed an early morning bye and a seemingly dis- interested referee who in- sisted on shortening the game to fifty minutes. Superstars started fast and opened the scoring, but Olympics equalized through Harald Bonkowski from a corner-kick in the second half. Ingo 200 Free, 4th Finals, 100 Back, 5th Finals 100 Free, 4th Consols (7th overall 50 Free, First alternate Clint Hirst 400 IM, 4th Finals, 200 Back, Ist Consols (6th overall) 200 IM, 3rd Consols (8th overall) 200 Fly, 7th, Finals Strong swims were also clocked by Lisa Woods who splashed her way to four lifetime best swims in the 200 IM, 200 Fly, 100 Breast and 100 Fly (6th Consols): Shonnagh Smith, 40 Free (29:13, 7th Consols: Susy Stanton, 100 Back, 1:13.86 (8th Consols): Trevor McBryan, 100 Breast (1:00.89, 4th Consols) and 200 Breast (2:32.91, Sth Consols); Gillian Morfitt, 100 Breast, 1:23.83 and Paula Neufeld, 5O Free, 29.83. Chena's final team standing placed them 14th overall in a field of 34 teams. Olympia Gold Caps staved off elimination and ended Caribbean Stars season instead as they earned a 2-1 decision on penalty-kicks. Jim Adams had kept the ‘Caps hopes alive when he tied the score 1-1 with a goal on the last kick in regulation time. . Other games saw Park Royal (who also had an early bye) edge Molsons 1-0 while Aardquin -Construction whipped Carlings 4-1.
