Vivian Xia with the B.C. Chamber Orchestra conducted by
Francis Kan, Sunday Apri 16 at 8 p.m at the Vancouver

EAST meets West on Sunday evening as composer Mark
Armanini premieres a new concerto at the Vancouver Playhouse.
Concerta for Yangqin is the fourth ira series the Capilano
College music instructor is writing for Asian instruments and
Western orchestra.

Composed specially for soloist Vivian Xia it will feature the
yangqin and a 25-piece ensemble. Describing the process of cre-
ating the concertos Armanini says “it’s like tailor-making a suit
