The winner will be selected by the end of January, and will have one year to create the winning sculpture. Arts Council president Joseph Cantafio said in an interview with the North Shore News $123,000 has been raised for the sculpture competition to date, with $27,000 still needed to reach the target of $150,000. He said although the Arts Counct! originally slated December as the end of the fundraising drive, ‘‘we're prepared to go to February if necessary It we don't raise the $150,000, we'll have to scale something down.”’ Cantafio said a massive mailing campaign is current- ly underway for fundraising purposes, as well as a drive to make personal contacts with waterfront industry personnel. To date the City of North Vancouver has donated $75,000, North Vancouver District has donated $2500, with private donations being made in amounts ranging from $1000 to $5000.
