THE VEHICLE Information
Centre of Canada has released a
report detailing the incidence of
thefts for the 1992-93 model year.

_ °The study found that the Ford
Mustang Cobra GT repeated as the
highest theft insurance risk at more
than 22 times. the average loss cost
of all 1992-93 model year vehicles.
The Cobra also logged the highest
rate of theft claims, accounting for
almost 18 out of every 100 insured
1992-93 models stolen.

In terms of vehicle styles, multi-
purpose vehicles and two-door type
models present the highest frequen-
cy and cost of theft claims, while
station wagons and passenger vans
record the lowest.

Theft accounted for 49% of the
amount paid by auto insurers in
1993 in claims on 1992-93 model
vehicles.

In 1993, the average cost per car
insured io pay for stolen vehicles in
Canada was approximately $34.
