LYNN WALLEY DAY

The first Lynn Valley Day was on September 74, 1912. John M.S. Duval of
Duval Road presided over the welt-publicized activities. The ferries were decorated
and there were flags along the route from the Ferry Wharf to Lynn Canyon Park. A Guard of
Honour was supplied by the 6th Canadian Engineers, music was provided by the North
Shore Band and the Boy Scouts took part in the celebrations. Extra streetcars were
necessary to carry the thousands who attended from distant Vancouver,
Burnaby and New Westminster.
The park by the public schocls where Lynn Valley Day is now held came into
being later on. in 1912 there was only one park and it was in the area of Lynn Canyon Park
where the sports were held. it is difficult today to imagine where a sports field once
existed because everything, land and bulidings, was washed downstream by
a huge landsiide on November 14, 1979.
