The Grade 12 West Vancouver Highlander became the first com- petitor since 1977 to make three individual records in one day. Bell sped to the 100m hurdles record of 14.52 early in the morn- ing, then minutes later she tied one of the oldest records by leap- ing 5.46m in the long jump on her first attempt to equal the distance recorded by Brenda Eisier of Argyle in 1969. Eisler recorded this distance five years before Bell was born. In the afternoon, Beil eclipsed the triple jump mark with ease on her first and third attempts, establishing 2 new standard at 11.42m West Van's Lloyd Guss set three senior records on the 1977 meet day. Graeme Bowbrick of Sutherland broke three bantam marks in 1980 but two were in events finalized during preliminaries. Sentinel Spartans, under head coaches Pauline Hedberg, John Crowley and Leslie Beckerman won their seventh consecutive grand aggregate team champion- ship by an 804 to 733 margin over “HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS coach Celine Kaufman’s Handsworth Royals who got five great senior individual and relay races out of James Leishman as he won his age division's individ- ual aggregrate for the fourth Straight year. Leishman finished first in the same three individual events he won last year and that Guss won in 1977 — the 400 metres in 51.24, the 400m hurdles in 55.30 and the 110m hurdles in 15.35. Leishman bettered his times from a year ago but Guss still holds the records in the first two at 49.13 and 53.26, while Dave Wilkinson of Handsworth now has the 110m hurdles mark of 14.22. Suzanne le Nobel, who shared the senior girls’ aggregate cham- pionship with teammate Beil, won the 800m and 1,500m to go with her first in the 3,000m the week before. While Bell, Leishman and te Nobel graduate this year, there are two new bright lights appearing. Peter Lorimer of Sutherland and Tod Pelly of Sentinel, both in Grade 8, set some impressive ban- tam records and tied for the ag- gregate title.
