10 - Sunday, December, 10,- 1989. North Shore News inquiring reporter Elizabeth Collings ee THE ENVIRONMENT has become one of the most talked about subjects in the late 1980s. The subject is frequently discussed on television talk shows and radio phone-in programs and is featured in special newspaper columns and articles. Recycling programs and waste disposal methods are regular agenda items at North Shore council ‘meetings. More and more environmen- tally-friendly products are appearing on grocery shelves, and businesses are making a concerted effort to show what they do for the environment. But, ultimately, pro- tection of the environment must come from individual efforts. What do you do for the environment? John Hoskin North Vancouver I'm very conscious of discarding garbage, pop cans and beer cans and generally try to keep the countryside clean. We have to eliminate plastic foam packaging. Karolyn Cooley West Vancouver All our household cleaners are ‘‘Green’’ products. We don’t use any plastic foam in the house. We recycle our papers and take our cans and bottles to depots. Daniel Willis North Vancouver I don’t really put a fot of emphasis on thinking about the environment, but I should. I don’t use plastic foam and I do recycle cans. Glenn Kitchen North Vancouver My parents take the papers in for recycling. My family doesn’t use plastic foam and we have a compost heap. Cathy Neal North Vancouver We buy milk in reusable bottles and switched to cloth diapers. We don’t use any chemicals in the yard, and we use phos- phorous-free laundry and dishwasher soaps.
