OPEN FOR XMAS

THERE is a segment of the
merry old public that prefers
to leave Christmas dinner
preparations to the profes-
sionals.

Yuletide kitchen toil is not for
them. So rather than abandon a
Portion of their ranks to tend
Christmas ovens and steam up
households with turkey vapors and
short tempers, they pack up and
head for their favorite restaurant.

Unfortunately for them, most
restaurateurs and their employees
would rather leave Christmas
ovens to someone else, too.

There are nevertheless several
restaurants on the North Shore
open Christmas Day, and while
dining out on that most sacred of
days might run counter to long-
held Christmas traditions, it might
also provide a welcome change of
pace from drifting into semi-
consciousness on family couches
after digesting another Christmas
dinner at mum’s.

The following then is a handful
of restaurants open Christmas Day
and featuring special Yuletide
cuisine.

THE AMBLESIDE INN, 1495

The Ambleside, which has
played host to international royalty

famousness, is laying on a four-
course Christmas Day banquet
with soups, appetizers and five
main entrees: traditional turkey,
roast duck, veal roast, salmon and
Chateau Briande.

Price per person is $29.75,

Guests will be given a full range
of fowl options in the Bridge
House’s first kick at the Christmas
Day dining can.

Duck, goose and turkey will be
featured. Diners must make their
choice at the sarne time they make
their reservations.

The chosen bird will be carved
tableside and, for all those who
cherish those seemingly endless
post-Christmas meals made up of
Christmas Day leftovers, all re-
maining meat will go home with
diners, who can then squabble
over who gets the drumsticks in
the Bridge House parking lot.

Price per person is $22 for adults
and $11 for children.

The meal includes a shrimp
cocktail, main entree and a
dessert.

Seatings will be at 3 p.m. and 6
p.m.
