Ata municipal public hearing on the proposed expansion March 8, 150 area residents attended. Those opposed said the grounds are too small for the expansion and traffic congestion caused by children be- ing transported to and from school will create dangerous congestion. Monday night Blair told the board it should deny the socicty permission to renovate the struc- iure as the majority of area resi- dents opposed the project. But board member Michael Smith said if the board attempted to do that, the socicty would probably just exercise its option to purchase. And in that case the decision regarding new construc- tion remains a municipal decision, Smith said, He added: ‘The site is clearly inadequate for a secondary site... by ministry of education guidelines, which should be con- sidered.”* Blair said the board had a com- munity responsibility fo make a comment on the issue. But board member George Suart said that as the school district had a lease with the school’s society, the district must abide by the terms of the lease and regard the issue as a business issuc. By ROBERT BEYNON Contributing Writer “The school district has given tacit support of this proposal,’’ Glenmore resident Colleen Blair told the board. Blair said the school district sent the society which manages Coll- ingwood School a letter approving the society's attempt to get permis- sion from the West Vancouver municipality to expand on the ex- isting school site. The North Shore Independent School Society leased the building and grounds from the school district for 10 years starting in 1986. Included with this lease is an option to purchase agreement which allows the socicty to buy the building and grounds at any point Kuyal City Antiques and FINE FURNISHINGS LTD.
