Mailbox Dear Editor: Canadians are uncomfor- table with apartheid. Right wing and centre parties op- pose it. Federal and provin- cial governments, all of them, look the other way. Some N.D.P. leaders flirt with it. But, like our native spokesmen, they avoid the word apartheid when they talk of apartism in this country, CUT UMON N.D.P.ers as socialists, are also collectivists. They see Canadians as equals, brothers under the skin, co- conspirators in a common cause. But Ed Broadbent and B.C.’s Bob Skelly take a different tack on aboriginal issues. They speak with a forked tongue. Indians are a oreed apart where land and cultural issues are concern- TEE SETAE MRE TIES FI SZ ACENTIT Uncomfortable with apartheid According to the New Democratic Party native laad claims are sacred. Your property rights and mine are secondary. The N.D.P. is against the entrenchment of our property rights in Canada’s constitution. But Indian land claims must be entrenched, firraly, forever. And why this two- facedness? Why not equal tights for all, Indians and other Canadians alike? Sure- ly the N.D.P. isn’t merely angling for votes. There has to be another, better reason. Apartism is a plank in N.D.P. policy, or is it? Democracy demands an answer. Hon. Jack Davis, M.L.A.
