WHEN ALEX Hunter walked away from Baby
Pac-man a week ago Tuesday it was more than
just the end of a little video madness.

Book of World Records.

Organizer, sponsor and
moving force behind the
bi-annual competition, is
that about $2,000 will go to
the Childrens Hospital
through the Variety Club,
that North Vancouver and
the Lower Lonsdale business
area have received some in-
ternational publicity § and,
too, that he has been able to
sell a few more of his

business going.

What we have here is as
much a triumph of small
businesses working together
as it iS a victory for sheer
determination over the
mindless repitiion of video
game patterns.

The event itself was simple
— eight contestants, spon-
sored by businesses ranging
from the Avalon and Lyn-
nwood Hotels to the Georgia

video screen until their eyes
glazed.

At the end, for the final
survivor, there was that
coveted world record and the
nice round sum of $1,000 in
cash, both claimed by
Hunter for the second time
in as many championships.

competition breakfast,

cheerleaders, a Sea Cadet
honor guard, balloons, giant
puppets, free doughnuts and
pizza for thé competitors
and the all the flash, color
and style you could ask for.

It’s not over yet, either.
The awards banquet is
scheduled for this Saturday
at Yic’s Dining Lounge with
tickets, at $10 a piece,
available at Right On Subs.
Proceeds, again, will go to
the Variety Club.

Most of that style, too,
was provided at no charge
by businesses like Sunshine
Cabs, Max’s Donuts, Lotsa
Pizza, Southam Farwest
Printing, the Lonsdale Clock
and Gift Shop, the
Balloonery and others.

What drew them was the
two-fold attraction of the
fact that proceeds from the
event will go to charity and
the publicity the event
generated.
