The funds were raised by Lions’ Clubs across. the North Shore. including the West Vancouver, Capilano, North Vancouver (host), Mount Seymour and _ the Lynn Valley clubs. Bill Crompton, the presi- dent of the Foundation, told the meeting that 1983 had shown a continued growth for the Foundation, with the. largest increase in contribu- tions to the capital account since the Foundation’s incep- tion in 1963... *“‘We tried to increase public awareness about the Foundation and we believe that is what led to more con- tributions,’’ said Crompton. Research projects currently taking place’ under the auspices of the: Foundation include Dr. Alison Clark’s work on antibiotics, Dr. John Hunt’s diabetes research, Dr. O.K. Litherland’s work on chronic obstructive lung disease, and Dr. G.E.C. Morrison’s work on back problems. According to Cromptofi,. all doctors. working on research projects do so without remuneration, with the research funding coming from the interest earned on the Foundation’s capital ac- count. ‘“‘This means that there will be a Foundation that will go on in perpetui- ty,’” said Crompton. He added a fundraising campaign, to be conducted in conjunction with the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, will take place this spring and will seck ‘support from in- dustry, service clubs . and others.
