West ‘ando ns Anza in cricket action AH, THE sweet smell of success. On a bright and beautiful Saturday afternoon, the West Vancouver “A” XI easily defeated the Anza First Eleven in B.C. Mainland Cricket League action at Hugo Ray Park. The win added to the dramatic turnaround = ex- perienced by the local team after a slow beginning to the season. In a “limited overs” (40 overs per team) match, Anza batted first and was dismissed in the twenty-sixth over for a dismal 24 runs. Opening bowlers Steve Miller (4 wickets for 6 runs) and Gary Collins (3 for 4) destroyed the early Anza batting line up. The visitors were sorely missing their star batsman Jeff Ryan, who is out for the balance of the season through illness. In reply, West Van lost only one wicket in scoring the required 25 runs with Steve Milborne and Vipin Patel both undefeated at the close of play. The victory, fourth out of the last five games, moved West Van into the leaders of the second division and strengthened the locals’ bid for an early return to the first division. West Van will try to continue its winning ways this Saturday as they meet Wescan at 2 p.m. in Hugo Ray Park. The team welcomes new members, particularly batsmen, and further in- formation can be sought from Neil Brett-Davies, 922- 0530.
