A two year moratorium on the expansion of com- munity schools in North Vancouver has been lifted. And Norgate Elementary School has become the first school to join the ranks of the eight other officially designated community schools - a number which is not likely to increase greatly. At the same time North Vancouver school trustees took these steps, they also endorsed three new policies designed to enhance community school services. “A formal decision to maintain the present communtiy schools but permit no additions, seems undesirably inflexible both to communities not presently served by com- munity schools, and to the present community schools where conditions may well alter over a period of time,” a board committee § con- cluded. An earlier report on the schools had concluded that the schools were a qualified success, and the committee comments tabled last weok, were based on this report. 3 Am, oven vs liliiglais RIVIERA SPA Swimming & Fitness Centre - Men, Women — Swim 7 Days a Week SPRING SPECIAL — 2 MONTHS FOR *60 (easy terms) ° Now featuring ladies’ woter therapy & aquatic exercise classes Guaranteed Lowest Prices * VANCOUVER NORTH VANCOUVER 327-0408 41st & Fraser The report and committee vonclusions complete an wxhaustive examination of the subject that began in the spring of 1979 when the authority of the school board to use funds to pay com- munity school. coordinators was challenged in court.
