THE daughter of two
convicted murderers
was sentenced on
Monday for possessing
a stolen credit card.
Shazia Rashid Khan, 22,

received 12 months’ proba- .

tion after pleading guilty to a
charge stemming from. an
April 3, 1995 incident. .,
Khan ‘was. in a Shoppe:

Drug: Mart store in the 1800:
block of Marine Drive in \“:st
Vancouver when police were
called. She had tried to make a
purchase. at the cosmetics
counter with someone else’s
credit card.

Khan’s - parents Abdur
Khan and Rashida Khan were
convicted of the’ second-
degree murder of their daugh-
ter-in-law Naazish’ Khan, 23.

Naazish Khan, the mother
of a two-month-old baby, was
strangled and beaten to death

on Dec. 10, 1993.
The murder occurred in

1300-block of Whitby Road
in the British Properties.

Said Shazia Khan’s lawyer
Larry Myers to the judge,
“You may recall her parents
on a preliminary hearing
before you.

Crown lawyer Mary-Ann
Booth said Shazia Khan was in
the store using a credit card
belonging to a man.

Police searched Shazia
Khan and a second credit card
in a different person’s name
was found.

The second credit card was
reported missing nine months
before.

Myers said the card Shazia
Khan was using belonged to a
friend.

Shazia Khan took the sec-
ond card away from friends
and although possessing it,
she had no intention of using
the credit card, said Myers.

Myers said his client was of
good ‘character and had con-
siderable financial difficulties
of late. She has no criminal
record. Another charge
against her was adjourned to
Oct, 14.

_ She is also charged with
failing to remit taxes in con-
nection with the sale ofa car.

Shazia Khan works at a
clothing store in Vancouver
and as a receptionist at a hair
salon, said her lawyer.

Said Judge Grandison, “I
can tell you the explanation
[I've heard here strains credi-
bility. It’s hard to believe.”

West Vancouver during her
probation.

Shazia Khan received .a
conditional discharge with the
probation. A conditional dis-
charge does not carry a crimi-
nal record.

Meanwhile Abdur Khan is
in jail. Rashida Khan is out on
bail pending the outcome of
an appeal of her murder con-
viction.

Shazia Khan is one of the
couple’s five children. Shazia
Khan was born in London and
came to Canada with her fam-
ily when she was one year old.
