4 20-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was bittea by a
police dog alter 4 2:30 aan, search on March Jf at Lyan
Caayon Park,

A North Vancouver RCMP officer on routine patrol
in the pork saw the suspect jump out of a van while it
was still moving, according to a North Vancouver RCMP
spokesman.

The patrofling police officer had seen the van travel-
ling in the park and decided to follow it,

The suspect ran towards the Lynn Canyon suspension
bridge after jumping out of the moving van,

A tcence plate check revealed the van was stolen,
according to police, who thea set up “perimeters” in the
park to cateh the suspeet.

Pelice dog, Arco, and his handler Cpl. John Welsh,
were called out and tracked the suspect down a trail.

The man suffered “some bite wounds” when he was
apprehended, according to the police.

The suspect was'taken to Lions Gate Hospital for
‘treatment and then to the North Vancouver RCMP
detachment.

Dean McArthur Durnig was charged with theft over
$1,000 and possession of stolen property in connection
with the incident.

NV man subdued

A NORTH Vancouver man, described as suicidal,
slashed his face and throat with a split beer can in front
of a North Vancouver RCMP officer on March/24 ont-
side Lions Gate Hespital.

‘The ex-girlfriend of the distraught man aierted the
police officer to the situation, according to’a North
Vancouver RCMP spokesman. A chemical spray and
help from other police officers were required/ to subdue
_the man, described by the police as being in his mid-20s. °

. Police said the man’s injuries were not serious. He

a5 treated in hospital. No name was released.

Pedestrian struck

A 19-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was taken to
‘Lions Gate Hospital by-ambulance oa March 3! with
non-life-threatening injuries after, he was hit by a car at
Taylor Way and Clyde Avenue in West Vancouver.

’ ‘The man was trying to cross Tayler Way at approxi-
mately 5 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle making an
illegal turn, according to a West ‘Vancouver Police
spokesman,

The driver of the vehicle was charged with disobeying
a traffic control device in connection with the incident.

The names of the driver and injured pedestrian were
not available to press t time.
