Demo forest opens after rain THE WEEKEND'S cooler, wet weather helped reduce the fire hazard at Seymour Demonstration Forest, but Lighthouse Park still remains closed. Seymour Demonstration Forest, closed since Aug. 11, received the required five millimetres of rain, said Abbie Milavsky, educa- tion coordinator for the 5,600 hectare Greater Vancouver Regional District forest. She added that the cooler temperatures helped the forest recoy- er a lot of moisture, bringing the fire hazard significantly down from extreme to low. The forest is now completely open with yuided walking tours resuming on Sunday, she said. The Chilliwack Forest District is also retracting its campfire restriction order in Bowen Island and West Vancouver. But meanwhile Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver remains closed, said Erik Lees, parks superintendent for West Vancouver District. “It helped, but not enough,’’ he said of the rainfall over the weekend. The park, originally closed on July 31, is still rated to be in the high fire hazard range.
