But other council members voted to poll single family homeowners on the controversial revenue suites issue. “Like it or not, we'll be losing housing by this,” said Marcino. “We've got 4,000 to 5,000 (illegal) suites which would disappear with the stringent (building) laws that would take effect if revenue suites were legalized.” The poll will try to determine how many single family homeowners are in favor of permitting revenue suites in single family residential zones, as long as the owner of a house with such a suite actually lives there. The issue has been long- debated on council with Alderman Bill Sorenson claiming that a change in zoning to allow revenue suites would mean more housing for renters and relief from high mortgage payments for homeowners. tojyoy BEETHOVEN Ss Sonata No 4 BARTOK s Gonata No 1 (1971) DVORAK « four Homanhe Pieces and St HEE RET SP atitasy mC Margo $6.00 - Mi hahif * NORTH VANCOUVER West of Lonsdale on 14th across =, from City Hall at Marlborough Towers. Other members of council decided that single family homeowners be advised they can cast ballots at City hall on the question between March | and March 26 next year. Council also voted to have staff work Saturdays so that homeowners won't be deterred by difficulty in going to City hall during business hours. Sorenson worried that only a small number of homeowners might voice an opinion on the matter if they have to come to City hall to do it. But other council members said it was preferrable to keep ballots at City hall rather than mail out post-cards, in order to avoid abuse of the poll. At Alderman Stella Jo Dean’s insistence a clause in the question on the ballot will be included, to the effect that change in zoning to allow revenue suites “is subject to enabling legislation” .
