The woman was approached by a man on Marine Drive near the Lions Gate Bridge overpass. The man forced her to a bush area between the Capilano River and Kiahanie Park north of Marine Drive. The victim was sexually assaulted. The suspect is described as being a white male, aged 20 to 25 years, 5°8"’, 180 pounds, with light brown collar-length hair and a round, clean-shaven face. The Suspect was wearing a blue windbreaker, jeans and running shoes and may have got off a bus at Park Royal after travelling from the Lonsdale Quay. Information regarding the incident should be for- warded (o police at 922-4141. Well- known NV resident passes away Ella Douglas Hanes. ELLA DOUGLAS Hanes, a well known North Vancouver pioneer, would have turned 103 years old today. Mrs. Hanes, who passed away last Sunday, was a well-known North Shore personality. She was married to former North Vancouver mayor and MLA George Samuel Hanes. Mrs. Hanes was a long-time member of St. Andrews United Church, the Lions Gate Hospital’s ladies’ auxiliary and a member of the Canadian Daughters’ League. She is survived by three daugh- ters: Evelyn Peterson of North Vancouver, Marion “Knowles of Victoria and Dorothy Symington of Quesnel. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and _ six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hanes was born April 8, 1887 at Cottam, Ontario. Her family eventually moved to Wind- sor, Ontario, where she married husband George on Dec. 24, 1907. The couple moved to North Vancouver in 1909. “She liked to travel,’”’ said Mrs. Hanes’ daughter, Evelyn. ‘‘She took a lot of ips on boats to Hawaii and up the West Coast.
