Argentina invaded and
seized the British-ruled
Falkland Islands Friday in
a brief battle with British
Royal Marines that left
one Argentine dead and
two others wounded.
Britain severed
diplomatic relations and
warned it would use force
if necessary “to sustain
and defend” the islands

the sources said.

There was no word of
British casualties.

Violence grows
in Israel

TEL AVIV, Israel -
Israeli soldiers shot and
wounded four Druze
Arabs on the Golan
Heights Friday in
dispersing a demon-
stration in a village in the
annexed area, the
military said. Six Israelis
were injured by rocks.

The wounding of the
Druze in the town of
Majdel Shams was the
first time in the current
wave of unrest that

shooting and casualties
have been reported in any
of the four Golan Heights
villages that were an-
nexed in December.

The spokesman said
that the attempt to breach
the curfew occurred at
noon.

The 12,500 Druze, who
live in four villages in the
Golan Heights, have been
on strike for seven years
to demonstrate their
refusal to accept Israeli
identification cards.
