toasted their mothers and
their fathers and fathers-in-
law, six of whom had died
over the years.

“We could ali see our
husbands in our sons,” said
Yvonne.

And the moms toasted
their sons — and their
daughters and daughters-in-
law who had been gracious
enough to -concede the
evening.

Then it was off to Viva's
for dessert, coffee, liqueurs
and dancing. ‘Those
mothers danced all night!”
mused McEachnie.

They left the late night
spot at 2:30 — but for one

all night’

limousine load, the night -

wasn't over yet. Cruising

through Stanley Park, they

quaffed champagne served
regally by the chauffeur, red
napkin draped neatly over
his arm. ;

In the morning the moms
got to work on time — one,

in Kamloops. — but most of
the sons were late... the
difference between working
for. yourself and working for

someone else, they ex-.
plained.
It was a_ comfortable

evening. “When you're with
your own children, you're
yourself,” said Yvonne.
“Who knows -you better?
And who byt the boys’
mothers know them as they
really are?”

For the moms, it was an
unforgetable experience, a
night to treasure forever —

and the cards of thanks and

appreciation poured in for
the next few days.

How much did it all cost?
No one wants to know. “The
mothers would be sick,” said
Yvonne. “Cause we're all
children of the Depression
— we don't want to know.”

For the men the price was
insignificant: it was a very
