entertainment Annie set to delight Vancouver audiences Scheduled over Christmas “Annie”, the Tony Award- winning musical based on the indomitable Amencan comic strip character, will make its debut in Vancouver at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Wednesday, December 17 for a three- week engagement through Saturday, January 3. Now in its fourth year on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre, “Annie” also has three national companies touring throughout the United States and Canada as well as productions in London, Japan, South Africa and Austraha. The company arriving here, recently cele- brated its first year anni- versary of its tour. Heading the company of actors who will bring the beloved comic strip characters to hfe on the Queen Elizabeth stage 1s Harve Presnell. a veteran Broadway. film and opera star, portraying the avun- cular bilhonaire “Daddy” Warbucks. Patncia Dryhie., who is from Toronto and was recently seen on Broadway in Michael Bennett's “Ball- room”, will enact the role of the hilariously-mean — or- phanage supervisor, Miss Hannigan. Twelve-year-old Rosanne Sorrentino, who made her professional debut in “Annie” and has won legions of new fans, plays the appealing waif of the title. Additional company members are: Deborah Jean Templin as Warbucks' secre- tary Grace Farrell, Dennis Parlato as Miss Hannigan's scheming brother Rooster, Wendy Kimball as Rooster’'s girlfmend/accomplice Lily, Jack Denton as President FDR and a chorus of show- stopping orphans danced and sung by Alyson Kirk, Kathleen Killar, Senta Moses, Colleen Simon, Julie Stevens and Stephanie Wellings. Annie's beloved canine companion § Sandy will be portrayed by Moose, who studied with the original Sandy of Broadway. One of the most successful shows in recent years, “Annie” continues to play to SRO audiences on Broad- way. The musical’s four companies (the Broadway original and three national companies) have grossed a total of approximately $65,000,000. This award- laden show recently eclipsed the runs of “How to Suc- ceed...” and “The Sound of Music” to become the 15th longest-running musical in show business history. “Annie” is the winner of seven Tony Awards _in- cluding Best Musical of 1977, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for the Best Original Cast LP and Cue Magazine's Golden Apple Award.
