implies he was merely play-
ing it safe with Afutations,

this year to placate fans
thirsty for new material.

Friends and family gor
involved with what may be
the last best pop album of
the century. Beck’s father
David Campbell joined in
on viola and string arrange-
ments, while Smiths’ gui-
tarist extraordinaire Johnny
Marr dropped by to add a~
few licks. Beth Orton even
offered some of her golden
