Drug deais lead to jail A North Vancouver man, armed with a .22- calibre handgun when he was arrested for marijuana trafficking, was recently sentenced to six months in jail. Accerding to the North Vancouver RCMP drug section, John Norman Joseph, 22, sold various amounts of mari- juana to undercover offi- cers in several transactions thar spanned a three- month period beginning in May, 1997. Most of the drug sell- ing tok place in the 400- block of West 3rd. Street in North Vancouver City. The last’ marijuana deal occurred on Aug. 15, 1997 in the 1300-block of Kilmer in Lynn Valley. Police say it involved half a kilogram of marijuana. Police say Joseph reached for a knife when he was arrested. Police then found the loaded handgun. Joseph pleaded guilty to marijuana trafficking and carrying a concealed weapon on Sept. 23. Judge Jerome Paradis prohibited Joseph from possessing firearms for five years. Mr. Brown had a successful carcer in newspaper advertising in the Lower Mainland. He was national advertising manager for the North Shore News, where he worked from 1983 to 1990. News publisher Peter Speck said Mr. Brown was well liked and respected. “We used to call him Downtown Laurie Brown,” he said, “because he was an old-timer in the business. He knew every- body and was very well connected.” Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joy, daughter Jennifer, sor, David and grandchildren Danielle and Mark. A memorial service was held Thursday at Sharon United Chureh in Langley.
