TV stars shine at store opening

With the opening of the new
store at Burrard and Robson,
Roots closed its two smaller
Robson Street boutiques, con-
solidating clothing and !cather
goods in the one location.

The store reveals a new

look for the Canadian cloth-
ing company. Designed by
architect Diane Bald, who is
married to Budman, it com-
bines clements of urban and
country. Douglas fir, cherry
wood and leather are used for
the sleek fixtures.

The  4,000-square-foor
space also accommodates
Roots’ new feather firniture
collection, the Coach House. -

Bald said the company had
so many requests for the large
Iralian leather chairs in the
shoe departments of Roots’
Toronto-area stores that the
company eventually decided
to manufacture them for sale.
Leather is incorporated into
cther home items, showing
up as handles on a wooden
serving tray or an inset on a
side table.
