Social services upheaval to create N. Shore Workload shuffle ‘not a shakeup’ Awnajor overhaul in North Shore social services got underway Monday. when workers were transferred between the North Van- couver and West Vancouver branches of the Ministry of Human Resources. Regional manager Bill Macbeth says the move is “not a shakeup” and is designed to make the social services department on the North Shore responsive. The shift in personell was described by Macbeth “as the first step in the end of the process.” which will also involve changing the locaton of the. Lonsdale office and strengthening the family and children’s ser vices division Macbeth said the changes are part of “a planned process” and were discussed more with social groups on the North Shore before being made. : He said case loads of the vamous social workers and other employees with the department were” re- examined and in some cases new workloads assigned. There was “a bit of an imbalance,” in some of the offices on the North Shore and the overhaul was done to correct this, Macbeth said “Some offices had a bunch of super-good people.” he said, and morale was a factor in the changes were There have been some complaints about the changes = and Macbeth agreed that upsetling ~ But he said some. staff members did participate in “change 1s ‘located ts the planning process and the whole overhaul will be reviewed in six months to provide “fine tuning.” Macbeth said he hoped the changes would not upset the chents and he said they would all be informed in writing or in person if they are being assigned a dif- ferent social worker.
