About seven months ago oil
appeared in Burrard Inlet. To deter-
mine which ship had leaked the oil,
field workers took oi] samples from

each of the ships in the harbor at the »

time. :
By comparing’ the oil leak sam-
ple to ships’ samples, the source of

the leak was found and charges are’

pending, said Kiuckner.

At the centre, ‘technicians test- -

and analyze samples for che! emical

‘contaminants and toxicity. In- the

microbiology unit, technicians sur-

vey the province's sheilfish growing

areas for bacterial contamination.
The centre has the capability to

_ conduct chemical and meta! analy-

sis of water, sediment and biological
tissue.
The facility ; also conducts exper-

: iments on fish to discover how they ¢

react to certain substances. The cen-
tre is able to recreate any fish habi-

. tat by adjusting the temperature and .

duration of light.

Suspects caught

TWO PITT Meadows men were. arrested on Monday
after. leaving a secure underground parking lot at 2:30
m. in the 2100-block of Bellevue Avenue. ©

“Tiree vehicles in the parking lot had been burglarized,
_ according to the West Vancouver Police. The men, ages 19
‘and 24, face charges of theft, possessing house breaking
-instruments and possessing stolen property. A third male
involved was not apprehended. No names were released.
