TALES OF true romance are
tough to come by in the
restaurant trade.

Especially in the receiving end of
the business: behind the counter; on
the serving side of the grill.

But here is one tale. and it is set
in West Vancouver.

The principals are the Schultes —
Manuela and Jurgen. Their romance
is Chesa, which continues to be one
of West Vancouver’s best restau-
rants, It begins decades ago on
another continent.

For those who would prefer to
skip the maudlin violins and teary
eyes, the highlights of the Schulte
love affair are summarized below:

meets talented German chef-in-train-

arts in the heart of Europe, but get
the itch to come west and experience
life and gastronomy North-American

They arrive in idyllic Vancouver

the roast beef dinner;
