OPTIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunitics avail- able through North Shore Com- munity Services (NSCS). FRIENDLY volunteers who are good with the public are needed to interview people wishing to volun- teer at North Shore agencies. Duties include interviewing, | mak- ing phone calls to agencies of a prospective volunteer’s choice, and some filing and re- cord-keeping. The hours are flex- ible; orientation and training will be provided. HELP a group of non-profit agencies put together a pull-out section in a local newspaper that honors local agencies and their volunteers. This job will include visiting various agencies, pres- enting the concept to them, and bringing their contribution back for layout. BE A _ newsletter coordinator and help to ‘coordinate writing, editing and layout for a communi- ty newsletter. The volunteer should have some experience in desktop publishing. The hours are flexible, IF YOU have an interest in health and exercise, be a promoter for the Junp Rope for Heart program. The promoter will con- tact North Vancouver schools to promote participation in the pro- gram, help to organize events, train volunteer helpers, and attend recognition and award pres- entations. The hours are flexible, but the volunteer must be avail- able during school hours for two or four hours a week. THE Dance for Heart Program needs a coordinator to contact fitness facilities on the North Shore and promote participation in the program. The coordinator will also help organize and pro- mote events, and assist volunteers and instructors. The hours are flexible and limited. Training and orientation will be provided. A COMMUNITY services society needs a volunteer to input data for the accounting depart- ment. The volunteer should have knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures, as weil as experience with the computer accounting systems. The hours are flexible. Decorate home with flowers IF THE thought of winter holiday entertaining con- jures up visions of cosy fireside scenes, pine boughs and a cup of cheer, stop a moment and add some flowers to the picture. Many people are moving into smatler homes as their children grow up. and head out on their own. Others maintain hectic lifestyles in households of just one or two adults. As a result, the traditional Christmas tree may not be desirable or practical. This year, try placing three large pots of amaryllis or lilies in a large basket, along with some evergreen branches or ivy hanging decoratively. over the edge, and create a different kind of showcase for the family’s favorite tree ornaments.
