doors for the last time on Friday.
Carmichael, whose father

bought the 30,000-square-foot fa-

cility from Bili Conroy in 197i,

said “‘it breaks our hearts to leave

our customers.””

been absorbed by Carter Pontiac

Buick in Burnaby, and other GM
outlets, several will go off and ‘‘do
their own thing,’? Leslie Car-

The landmark business at the

corner of Taylor Way and Marine
Drive must make way for the con-
troversial Twin Towers develop-
ment, the design of which has been
approved by the district’s advisory
design panel and is now ready for
public discussion.

A public information meeting
will be held Tuesday, Gct. 10 at
the West Vancouver Recreation
Centre, followed by an Oct. 16
public hearing, at which the rezon-
ing and development permit for
the 3.5-acre site will be considered.

Maa jailed for
fish incident

A 22-YEAR-OLD Richmond man
was sentenced Sept. 20 in West
Vancouver provincial court to six
months jail after he pieaded guilty
to theft under $1,900 in connection
with a Sept. 14, 1988 theft from
the West Vancouver Department
of Fisheries and Oceans research
laboratory in the 4100 block
Marine Drive.

Michael Barry Sawyer was orig-
inaily charged after he was stopped
the same night in the area by police
and found to have fish remains on
his pants. The pants were seized
and zhe scales tested.

The tests showed the scales to be
from the same prototype fish being
developed at the West Vancouver
lab.

Earlier that night a nightwat-
chman had chased at least two men
from the lab’s tank area. They
escaped, leaving a trail of fish
behind them.
