10 - Sunday, September 20, 1987 - North Shore News SAHALEE NORTH DEVELOPMENT Residents cali for better road access A NUMBER of Westport and Westhaven residents are call- ing for a second access to be planned for the new Sahalec North Development being built in West Vancouver. The subdivision is to include 78 lots being prepared by Interna- tional Land Corp., plus possibly 10 more municipal tots. All would be accessed by Westport Road and Westhaven Road. “Therefore, in the event of that toute being blocked by a major accident, whether automotive, landslide, flood, heavy snowfall, tree fall or other scenario, as many as 88 families would be trapped in the Sahalee North and adjacent municipal Jand area,’’ Paul and Dorothy Sykes of Westport Place informed district council by letter at Monday's council meeting. “The intersection of Westport and Westhaven Roads is already a substandard intersection. It is situ- ated at the bottom of two very stcep grades. In the winter months, both roads are very slippery and very hazardous,’’ added Westhaven Road resident Pamela Martin. Martin explained how it had often been necessary for her to park her car at’ the intersection and walk home because it was too difficult to navigate the steep hill during a snowfall. Contribuune Writer “Em trying to imagine where residents of 85 more homes would park their cars,’ Martin wrote, The Sykes suggested a second access be provided to the south of the subdivision, This would not only lessen the impact of the new homes on the dangerous Westhaven-Westport intersection, but also provide a shorter route to the future secondary school plann- ed for Caulfeild Plateau and the new shopping centre on Headland Road. “Tr ourge you to require the developer of this project to ensure there is another access rvad to Sahalee North, for the sefety and benefit of the residents already liv- ing in the area and for those who will one day live there,”’ Martin concluded. The Gleneagles Area Ratepayers directors also have unanimously voted to express their concerns regarding the subdivision access to council. Ald. Mark Sager agreed that some valid points had been raised that should be considered. JAMES M.
