Live a Christmas fantasy TWELVE YEARS ago Christine Morton was sew- ing for fun out of her base- ment in West Vancouver. By KIM PEMBERTON News Reporter Today, the 35-year-old clothes designer oversees an international design company, Specializing in lingerie. The popularity of her designs have caught on so much, that a few of her fantasy pieces have been shown in the prime time television series Dallas. Morton’s design studio con- linues to be in West Vancouver, but her work is marketed coast to coast in Canada and the United States. She employs a number of pre- fessional seamstresses throughcat the Lower Mainland, aud works with fellow designer Jill Godfrey. AN of the lace used in’ the Christine Collection is imported from Europe. In the early days Marton used antique lace to make blouses and dresses, before beginning her lingerie collection. “Twas making lingerie and ted- dies before they became popular,” she said. “My feeling is lingerie is some- thing really special.’’ Morton graduated from base- ment sewing after making a few sales to local stores. She found a Vancouver agent, who travelled to the Prairies and sold her collection there. Next Morton went to Toronto and Montreal herself, where she was overwhelmed by the response from stores there. “People were really pleased with our collection. Our fook is unique, and this is why we get the kind of response we do," she said. Vancouver wardrobe consultant Diana Kilgour described all of Morton's work as ‘‘exquisite.”* “Usually when I’m dressing people | tel! them 1o get the basics for their wardrobe, bur (the Christine Collection) is such a temptation, you just want to blow the budget."" Kilgour said she would definitely recommend lingerie articles from the Christine Collection for women who are trousseau shopping. Morton's bridal collection was started two years ago.
