Consistently active on a com- munity level as a networking resource for business and profes- sional women, club activities in- clude regular monthly dinner ‘meetings featuring guest speakers, workshops, seminars, and educa- tional programs focusing on career and leadership development. Speakers hosted over the past year have included MLA Jack Davis, Colleen Welch, manager of the Lonsdale Quay, and retired RCMP Supt. Bruce Northorp. Since 1970, the local club has provided the Margaret Campbell bursary at Capilano College to de- serving female students. On a provincial and national level the NSBPWC mandate, through its affiliation with the CFBPWC, embraces a_ larger community of concern, historically lobbying for the real economic issues affecting working women of all stripes and corporate colors. Achievements on the national levei in the past include establish- ment of a women’s bureau under the federal department of labor in 1953. In 1960, the CFBPWC pushed for the federal government to appoint a qualified woman to the National Parole Board. The first woman was appointed the same year. Provincially, the NSBPWC is stage centre next year May 22 to 24 at the International Plaza as the host of the B.C. conference meeting of the !7 clubs active in B.C. and the Yukon. Resolutions focusing on the concerns of women in the workforce are formulated by the membership at the yearly con- ference and are passed on to the provincial government.
