N. Van firm wins
highway bridge bid

A PROVINCIAL Gov-
ernment contract for con-
struction of a $1 million
dollar bridge over Sunset
Creek on the Squamish
Highway has been awarded
to a North Vancouver firm.

The ministry of transpor-
tation and highways an-
nounced Monday that the
contract has been awarded
to Interland Contract of

North Vancouver for
$392,199.

The remainder of the $1
million price tag for the
structure is made up in
engineering fees and pre-
liminary site work the
ministry will do.

According to the ministry,
Interland will be required to
construct a_ steel girder
structure 270 feet long with a
two-lane, 65-foot wide

bridge deck to span the
creek.

The construction project is
expected to get under way
early next month and pro-
vide employment for 10
people. The bridge will be
completed by October 31.

The bridge project is part
of a 12-year, multi-million
dollar upgrading project for
Highway 99.

Shore want to end some
confusion about firearms.

The News earlier reported
that West Vancouver Police
were calling on residents of
that municipality to renew
firearms acquisition certifi-
cates they acquired in 1979.

That’s raised some con-
fusion among gun owners
who don’t necessarily need
the permits.

The firearm acquisition
certificates are needed before
you take possession of a gun
whether you plan to buy,
borrow or trade for one.
