A come-from-behind weekend

Mechanical problems and wet track in Portland

The second round of
the International
Conference of Sports
Car Clubs events was
held this past weekend
at Portland In-
ternational Raceways.
For North Shore
Drivers this event
meant a six-hour tow
just to be part of it!

Last minute problems
practically did in the Minit

Formula Vee A faulty
ignition switch that failed in
the pits just moments before

had to be quickly bypassed
and the car push started in

position out of a group of 14
Formula Vees. He was faced
with the task of making up
for lost ground.

he had disposed of a few of

problems to contend with on
the weekend as well

FORMULA FORD

Lola T440
Formula Ford, was running
strong on Saturday during
the first) qualifying session
and Mahood picked up 2nd
best time. On Sunday
however, his troubles began
as in that session his car lost
all its water and overheated
severely causing internal
engine damage

finishing up in time for the
afternoon race

Mahood youned the grid of
24 starters in 15th position
and he too had to face the
task of making up for lost

ground At the end of the
first lap he was in Sth
position, and hard charging
after the leaders. He finished
30 minutes later in 3rd, just
seven seconds behind the
leader

The finish was actually a
first for him as far as the
Conference senes goes, and
he is now leading in points
