Teachers say they won’t participate

THE union for public school teachers is not get-
ting with the program when it comes to user-pay

kindergarten in West Vancouver.

The B.C Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) has declared all jobs “in dispute”
relating to the controversial pilot program that provides optiena!
“enhanced” kindergarten instruction that fills a full school day starting in
September,

The dispute designation means that none of the 44,000 unionized pul
lic school teachers in the province are allowed to apply for the estimated 1
teaching positions assuciated with the new CHILD (Children Happily
Inquiring Learning Developing) program.

“The main reason (for the designation) is that they eating a two-
tier educational system.” said Bill: Ferguson, president of the West
Vancouver Teachers’ Association.

Ferguson said the public school system is for all children and the union
is Opposed to the school district charging fees for the extra kindergarten
