Airing live from Vancouver and broadcast nationally, the show is host- ed by writer Steve Burgess. A columnist for The Proviuce newspaper and contributing editor at Chatelaine and Vancouncr magazines, Burgess is a newcomer to television, 2 “conversational humourist™ who brings to the small screen a unique slant on current events, says the show’s executive producer Sue Ridout, an Upper Lonsdale resident. “Steve is a guy who is quite irreverent and quite funny. He’s very capable of taking things and turning them on their ear,” says Ridout, who befor: Grbe end was executive producer of Broadcast One. Meant to appeal te “news junkies.” @rhe end is designed as an alternative to mainstream news thai tar- gets under-reported stories and approaches them from 2 fresh angle. The one-hour show combines in-studio interviews with five on-loca- tion segments hosted by another newcomer to TV. Karen Lam, a lawyer and tax consultant for the film industry whom Ridout describes as “impossibly accomplished.” The show also includes fun features like Bubble World, pop-up video of news footage, and TV Teaser, a video puzzle which offers clues to the story of the week. @the end also places a strong emphasis on on-line interaction.
