Bay to crack down on suites LIONS BAY Village Council has issued warning that it will start cracking down on homeowners renting out illegal suites. Village residents and lot owners will be receiving a letter telling them that as of June 1, 1990, the bylaw defining the area as ‘‘single family’’ will be enforced. The definition of single-family dwelling laid out in the bylaw states that such a home must have ‘not more than one set of cooking facilities.” Therefore, residents are allowed to have boarders in their home, but may not provide them with a separate kitchen. At the village council meeting ‘on Monday night, councillor Deve Howard said he had received sev- eral complaints from local residents about neighbors operating illegal suites. Vi'lage clerk Bernice Fullen said she couldn't estimate how many of the approximately 430 Lions Bay homes contained illegal suites, but noted that there are many more boxes at the post office than there are houses. Whether the discrepancy was due to boarders or suite renters, * however, she could not say.
