DEMPSEY Bob and Richard Hunt are among a group of well- known artists who will be sharing their knowl- edge and experience with 200 emerging artists at an upcoming conference. The second — annual Business of Art conference is set for March 26-27 in Richmond. The conference is designed to prepare aboriginal artists and craft producers to success- fully operate their businesses and market their work nation- ally and internationally. There is a particular focus on markets in the U.S. Aboriginal Business Canada is presenting the con- ference. The event is being - organized by the Native ‘Investment and Trade ~ Association (NITA). At last year’s conference, - Bob and Hunt spoke of how “they could have used a net- - working event such as Business of Art. that would - assist them with their career ~ development. Whatever business skills they need are acquired along the way.” The conference addresses some of these issues, he said. Conference topics include: @ copyright laws for artists; @ writing your biography; B promotional material; @ merchandising and packag- ing; @ selling venues, and BUS. market porential. Also planned are presenta- tions by U.S. buyers and one- on-one small business coun- selling. On March 28-29, follow- ing the conference, artists will exhibit and sell their work ata trade show at the Performance Norks building on Granville Island from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Last vear’s trade show attracted hundreds of people including local celebrities and US, buyers.
