Fashion on the imsiae WHEN ROBERT Altman brought us Prét @ Porter and billed it as an “insider’s look at fashion,” viewers were treated with an embarrassing and unlikely view of the Paris fash- ion scene, It was a farce and quite obviously the work of an outsider looking in. Douglas Keeve's . Unzipped, on the other hand, has sue- ceeded where Ajuman failed. It could be because Keeve is an insider, fashion photographer for 12 years. Or because he is intimately familiar with the subject of his docu- mentary, his ex-lover, designer Isaac ‘Mizrahi, who he split with during filming. Keeve's rough, grainy shots of Mizrahi at work build frenetically to the technicolor climax of the ninway show, the brief moment during which the designer will be judged a success -or a failure. Through Keeve's lens we see the master creator at work: gaining inspi- ration for his next collection from a Ouija board, the Flintstones and Mary Tyler Moore; gabbing with gal pal Sandra Bemhard; . and seeking: solace from Debussy. Unzipped plays nightly at 7:10 at Caprice Park Royal cinemas. Catch it by Oct. 5; after that it may be gone. — Layne Christensen Photo submitted FLAMBOYANT NEW York designer Isaac Mizrahi shares the screen with his glamor gals, mode!s Naomi Campbell (left) and Linda Evangelista, in Unzipped, at Caprice Park Royal Cinemas _ until Thursday.
